Wool is the material of choice for Turkish kilim. Cotton and silk are also used. Most rugs employ the double knot also called Turkish knot. All the knots are bound on two warps. This makes sure that the pile thread is tightly secured around two warps that finally result in a stronger and more elaborately designed rug. Wool pile on wool warp and weft is the most common technique of weave. Wool pile on cotton warp and weft and silk pile on silk warp and weft are also woven in large numbers.
